Trivia

  • Fox has actually censored Family Guy for perceived religious intolerance. They refused to air the episode When You Wish upon a Weinstein due to fear of a backlash from Jews and Catholics.
  • In this episode, Parker and Stone appear to accuse television executives of refusing to stand up for free speech, particularly under pressure from organized religious communities. Comedy Central and other foreign networks that show South Park have not aired or re-aired the ninth season episodes "Trapped in the Closet" and "Bloody Mary" because of protests from Scientologists and Catholics.
  • This episode references Muslim protests over a Danish comic strip depicting Muhammad with a bomb under his turban. Several American news outlets were criticized for reporting on the controversy without reprinting the cartoons for fear of offending Muslims. An earlier South Park episode, "Super Best Friends", portrayed the Islamic Prophet with no controversy.
  • Burying one's head in the sand is a behavior commonly attributed to the ostrich while feeding, and is typically used as a metaphor for hiding from reality.
  • The dream sequence featuring a nuclear bomb parodies the movie Terminator 2: Judgment Day.
  • Music from the movie Team America: World Police can be heard near the ending of the episode.
  • In the DVD commentary, Trey Parker and Matt Stone state for the record their opinions on Family Guy. They say that although they respect the show for its fans and making people laugh, and having some smart humor, they ultimately hate the show itself and have absolutely no respect for it writing-wise, namely for its overuse on "gag-humor".
  • The dream scene in which Ike and Kyle are killed in a bomb strike parodies Terminator 2: Judgment Day in which Sarah Connor dreams that innocent people and herself are incinerated by a nuclear warhead.
  • Ayman al-Zawahiri's speech in Arabic during live footages from Al Jazeera in which he appears, (while subtitled to reference "how angry Al Qaeda and the Muslim world is of showing Prophet Mohammad") can be translated as follows:

"We have told America time and time again that we are at war with them. They bear responsibility for this war because of their support for oppressive, Zionist regime in Israel who continues to kill, maim and commit atrocious acts against Palestinians and other Muslims in all Muslim/Arab lands. Until the aggression against Muslims and Arabs stops, the war will continue."
  • The background music played during the scene where the professor is explaining his plan to the townspeople is from Halo 2.
