Trivia

  • The episode was likely inspired, partially, by an event that occurred the previous November, when Michael Richards became angry at an audience member in a comedy club and shouted racial slurs at him.
  • During the fight between Cartman and Dr. Nelson, as well as the ending credits, "Down with the Sickness" by Disturbed can be heard in the background.
  • The term "nigger" is used 42 times in the episode, all of them uncensored (the captions display "n-word" instead of "nigger"). The word is used 3 times in isolation and 39 times in the phrase "Nigger-guy".
  • Dr. Nelson is a parody of the Rice brothers of infomercial fame.
  • The car brand Chepy is clearly a spoof of the car brand Chevy.
  • While Randy Marsh reads his poetry, a picture of American journalist and author Hunter S. Thompson and one of John Coltrane can clearly be seen in the background.
  • The comedy club in this episode, "The Laugh Factory", is the same place where Michael Richards made his infamous racial slur. Although the real Laugh Factory is located in California, it was in Colorado in the episode.
  • During the Congressional hearing the African-American senator says to the senior senator next to him “You’re the biggest Nigger Guy”. This may refer to Senior Senator Robert Byrd, who is a former member of the Ku Klux Klan.
  • The Rednecks in this episode use the phrase "We Don't Take Kindly to..." just as in the episode Sexual Harassment Panda.
  • Behind Dr. Nelson in the Principal's office is a picture of Principal Victoria and Rosie O'Donnell.
  • This episode aired exactly one week after Black History Month ended in North America.
  • The episode's portrayal of a single African-American Senator is accurate in terms of the real United States Senate: Barack Obama is the only African-American Senator in the 110th Congress.
  • On the newspaper front page shown following Randy's "apology" to Jesse Jackson, the word receives is spelt incorrectly in the headline "Rev. Jesse Jackson Recieves Apology in the End".
  • Eric Cartman makes a reference to the popular video website YouTube, saying "Dude, that was the funniest thing I've ever seen. I watched it on YouTube about 60 times". In fact, Viacom, Comedy Central's parent company, has recently forbidden YouTube from hosting its copyrighted material and thus clips of this episode were removed.
  • During the fight with Dr. Nelson, Cartman makes him say "Carol Anne - Don't Go into the Light", a line famous for being uttered by "little person" Zelda Rubinstein in Poltergeist.
  • An "updated" version of the episode aired on March 9th 2007, in which a short scene is added before the comedy club scene. In this version, Dr. Nelson turns red, and the kids shout "Hello, fatso!" instead of "Good morning, fatso!".
  • Randy's petitioning of the Senate to ban the "N" word is most likely a reference to a similar, symbolic ban on the term passed by New York City Council in February 2007.
  • In real episodes of Wheel of Fortune, the letters given are: R, S, T, L, N, and E. However, in the South Park version, R, S, T, L, and E were given automatically.
