| Trivia |
- The title references Ice Capades, a famous ice-skating-based travelling entertainment show.
- The Forbidden Zone is
clear reference to Planet of the Apes where a
similar desolate area exists beyond civilization.
- The scene where a louse argues with the Vice
President is similar to a scene with Dennis Quaid from The
Day After Tomorrow.
- In the first airing of this episode, Clyde's surname is Harris even
though in previous episodes it was Donovan. It had
originally been Goodman in early items of South Park
merchandise. In a subsequent re-airing two days after the original showing, his last name had been changed back to Donovan.
- Craig's hair is black in this episode. His hair was a light brown color in The
Losing Edge.
- The lice were referring to the Gaia hypothesis when they hypothesized whether their environment was a living
organism and if the damage they were doing to their environment would end up
harming them.
- The music that plays when Travis is rescued by the
fly is the Pie Jesu from Fauré's Requiem, performed by the Oxford Camerata.
- In addition, Travis' rescue by the fly is similar to a scene in The Lord of the Rings: The Return of the King, where Frodo and Sam are carried off Mount Doom by the Eagles.
- A promotional press image for the episode shows Cartman wearing his normal clothing while holding a blow torch. In the actual episode, in this same scene, Cartman instead wears a jacket similar to the one worn by R.J. MacReady in The Thing.
- It is initially implied that Kenny will be punished by a soap and sock beating (referred to as a "sock bath" here) - an allusion to the Stanley Kubrick movie Full Metal Jacket, in which an underperforming soldier is treated similarly. This practice, also referred to as a blanket party, was common in the military during the Vietnam War.
- At the doctor's office, Clyde's mother is seen reading a magazine entitled Vague - a clear allusion to Vogue magazine.
- The scene in which Travis argues with high-ranking officials is similar to the opening scenes of Superman 1, where Jor-El argues with the Kryptonian elders about the imminent destruction of Krypton.
- The scene featuring lice running through a "forest" of hair is a reference to Apocalypto.
- The lice scenes at the beginning of the episode are highly reminiscient of the plot of Dante's Peak.
