Trivia

  • The Woodland Critters from the episode Woodland Critter Christmas and ManBearPig both make a return in this episode.
  • Cartman's dream sequence is a direct reference to dream sequences from the films Gladiator, Final Fantasy: The Spirits Within and Risky Business.
  • Cartman's dialog and action when trying to revive Kyle from death mirrors a similar scene from the movie The Abyss.
  • The idea of a portal to another dimension is an homage to Stargate, starring Kurt Russell. In fact, Russell is seen with the soldiers as they're about to march into Imaginationland. When he asks why he was there in the first place, the general explains "You were in that one movie that was kind of like this", referring to his role in the film.
  • Castle Sunshine is strikingly similar to Rivendell from The Lord of the Rings film trilogy.
  • The Mayor of Imaginationland telling Butters to click his heels three times to return home is a reference to The Wizard of Oz, in which same method is used by Dorothy and Toto to return to Kansas.
  • The scene in which Cartman revives Kyle is reminiscent of a similar scene from the film The Abyss, where Bud revives Lindsey.
  • Jesus is a member of Imaginationland's Council of Nine, despite the fact that South Park has always previously depicted him as a real person and not as an imaginary character.
  • Kyle has nearly died numerous times (e.g. in Super Best Friends, Cartmanland, Cherokee Hair Tampons and Smug Alert) but has been saved by Stan or Cartman in all instances. Stan has saved Kyle three times, while Cartman has saved Kyle twice, if only for his own personal gain.
  • Imaginationland's Council of Nine consists of the following members:

    • Aslan
    • Gandalf the Grey
    • Glinda the Good Witch
    • Jesus
    • Luke Skywalker
    • Morpheus
    • Popeye
    • Wonder Woman
    • Zeu
