| Trivia |
- The two songs Jimmy Buffett sings at the AIDS benefit and at the AIDS cure benefit were parodies of his hit songs "Margaritaville" and "Cheeseburger in Paradise".
- Cartman's hat and scarf are in reference to the movie Philadelphia in which Tom Hanks plays a lawyer with AIDS.
- The cheerful music cue that is played during the transition from the hospital to the school is similar to that used in the 1950s American sitcom Leave it to Beaver.
- There have been at least three times in the show in which Cartman has wished that Kyle had AIDS, which is the source of the irony that caused Kyle's laughing throughout the first half on the episode. These incidents include:
- In the episode Casa Bonita, Cartman, Kenny, and Stan are all playing video games when Kyle enters and says that he has good news, to which Cartman replies "You have AIDS?"
- In the episode Woodland Critter Christmas, Cartman ends his Christmas story with the line, "And everyone lived happily ever after, except for Kyle who died of AIDS two weeks later."
- In the episode Red Man's Greed, Cartman suggests giving Kyle AIDS as a potential way to raise money.
- "Two brave little buddies who against all odds have journeyed across America to find a cure for AIDS; all they have is each other in a race against time." This is an allusion to the 1995 Brad Renfro film, The Cure.
- Cash being the cure for AIDS is a reference to the fact that Magic Johnson has been able to afford treatments for his HIV due to his vast wealth. Cash and Magic Johnson may also refer to the controversial claim by Kanye West that Magic Johnson has access to HIV medications that the general public does not, perhaps even to the extent of having a cure or vaccine for HIV.
