The boys reluctantly go to a
circus and tolerate the acts they see until a troupe of contorting
Romanian quintuplets gets their attention. The boys are in love. Later
that night, the quints' grandmother knocks on the Marshes' door and
asks for sanctuary. The Marshes take the quints and their grandma in.
Marvin Marsh gets to know her well. The quints begin to teach the boys
their moves, and Kenny's musical talent is discovered. His success
takes him to Romania. |

| Trivia |
- The whole drama of the custody battle over the quints
is a parody of
the Elian Gonzalez fiasco. Elian Gonzalez was a seven year old Cuban
refuge. He made it to Florida and stayed with relatives while a custody
battle raged between them and his father in Cuba. The relatives in
Florida took him to Disneyland and tried to show him how great America
was. The battle ended when INS agents raided the home where Elian was
staying and ripped the boy from the relatives' arms at gunpoint.
Indeed, this episode aired the Wednesday after Elian Gonzales was taken
in the
raid (only three days earlier).
- It's likely that this episode mocks
Romania due to South Park being banned there in 2000 by the
CNA (the Romanian equivalent of the FCC) for
being too vulgar.
- "Cirque du Cheville" is a parody of the French circus
"Cirque Du Soleil.", and roughly translates as "Pin Circus".
- There's a small but significant reference to the
Dionne Quintuplets of
Canada when the Vladchick Quintuplets play outside in the backyard
behind a chain-link fence. As they play, the crowd gathers to gawk at
them, take picture, feed them fishsticks, and so on. This mirrors the
situation the Dionne girls found themselves in during
the 1930s and 1940s when they were
cared for by the Ontario government and rasied in a complex that
included a large playing field surrounded by a viewing gallery.
- The aria Kenny is singing during his Romanian
audition is "La Donna E
Mobile" from "Rigoletto" by Verdi. He also sings excerpts of two other
opera arias: "Non piu andrai" from "The Marriage of Figaro" by Mozart;
and "Der Holle Rache," (better known as the "Queen of the Night Aria"),
from Mozart's "The Magic Flute."
