The boys of "South Park" produce their own morning news show on the school's closed-circuit television station and are immediately caught up in the intense competition for ratings with Clyde. Cartman and Jimmy anchor "Super School News" bringing all the latest from South Park Elementary to their audience of four viewers. When the show faces cancellation, the boys refuse to give up. Committed to restructuring the program to attract viewers, Cartman will try anything to hook an audience.

Trivia

  • Parts of the boys' trip scene (especially the fish-eye lens and distorted music) are an homage to the 1969 film Easy Rider. Near the end of the film the protagonists (Dennis Hopper and Peter Fonda) drop acid along with two prostitutes, in a scene vaguely reminiscent of this one.
  • The music in Craig's show is a variation of that used in The Benny Hill Show, "Yakety Sax" by Boots Randolph.
  • When Butters talks about Dagwood, he's referencing the Blondie comic that appeared on Sunday, 14 Nov 2004.
  • Aside from making a parody of infotainment and various news shows, this episode may very well be a parody of South Park itself. The boys all sitting around a table, trying to come up with "the best idea for an episode ever," as well as their lack of good ideas, may be Matt Stone and Trey Parker commenting on their show's own lack of any rational plots. This is best displayed by Cartman's suggestion that they do an episode about Crab People, which has already been done in Episode 708 "South Park is Gay!".
  • Token's role as the meteorologist is probably an homage to the Today Show's Al Roker.
  • Name changes: Clyde's surname had previously been "Goodman" (on merchandise, at least), but is known as Clyde Donodan in this episode. In addition, the character previously known as Token Williams, becomes Token Black.
