| Trivia |
- Trapped In The Closet is the title of an R. Kelly work. It also comprises a 12 part music video soap opera in which the main character narrates all of his actions and dialogue, just as is portrayed in this episode.
- "Tom Cruise won't come out of the closet!" - Cruise has for many years been the butt of gay jokes, even though he's married and and has vehemently denied such claims, typically with resort to legal action. The term "come out of the closet" and its derivatives are used 39 times during the course of the episode.
- There is no Operating Thetan level 9, or OT9, in the Church of Scientology. It only goes up to OT8. Stan being OT9 is a plot device.
- The character of Chef was absent from the episode, perhaps because Isaac Hayes, the voice actor of the character, is a Scientologist. In an interview for The Onion A.V. Club on January 4th 2006, Hayes was asked about the episode. Hayes said that he told the creators, Matt Stone and Trey Parker , "Guys, you have it all wrong. We're not like that. I know that's your thing, but get your information correct, because somebody might believe that shit, you know? But I understand what they're doing. I told them to take a couple of Scientology courses, and understand what we do". (reference).
- During the credits, each contributor's name is replaced by "John Smith" or "Jane Smith", a reference to the possibility or fear of lawsuits from the Church of Scientology for which they are renowned.
- Stan mentions the Denver Broncos' 7-2 record. When this episode first aired the Broncos were, in fact, 7-2, with the last game being played three days before the episode's premiere.
- The alien souls seen in Xenu's brainwash cycle resemble the Tholian race from Star Trek.
- Cartman, Kyle and Kenny only appear in two scenes in this episode.
- This episode will reportedly not be shown on the UK channel Paramount Comedy 1, as it is believed that Tom Cruise has threatened to sue. This threat was alluded to in the episode itself when Cruise shouted at Stan "I'll sue you in England!". Great Britain has much stricter laws regarding slander and libel than the United States.
