A haiku is just like a normal American poem except it doesn't rhyme and it's totally stupid. Close Quote Mr Garrison quote

Episode 913 - Free Willzyx
Kyle convinces the fourth-grade boys to help him get his special new friend back home. A "talking" whale inspires the fourth-graders to risk everything to return him to his family. With the police on their tails, the boys enlist the help of a foreign government and embark upon an adventure they'll not soon forget; one in which the boys learn just how far to go for a friend.

Trivia

  • Episode name and topic references and spoofs Free Willy with "z" and "x" put before and after the y, respectively.
  • Jambu spoofs Shamu, the trained killer whale and mascot of the SeaWorld amusement parks.
  • In the opening scene, right after Jambu "waves" at the crowd, the Twister II, a wooden roller coaster at Six Flags Elitch Gardens, can be seen in the background. Six Flags Elitch Gardens is right next to Ocean Journey (which Sea Park is based upon), in Denver.
  • For the first time realistic drawings of the kids are shown. Nico Agnone (a relative of one of the animation crew members) was the model for Stan and Kyle according to the South Park Studios FAQ.
  • When the boys are presenting the plan to free the whale to the rest of the kids, they use a "Jazzerstep" platform to stand on.
  • When the boys sneak into the park to free the whale, they are all wearing black facepaint, except for Token (the only black child) who is wearing white facepaint.
  • When the boys refuse to pay $20 million to the Russians to take the whale to his family on the moon, the Russian President (Vladimir Putin is not identified by name) thinks George Bush is prank calling him. This scene is remarkably similar to a bargaining scene in the first episode of the Israeli animated series MK 22. Moreover, the fact that "they were going to do it for that 'N Sync guy" is a reference to 'N Sync singer Lance Bass training to be the third civilian in space in 2002.
  • "Nu-no, we don't want you to eat the whale" - This alludes to the fact that the Japanese are big consumers of whale meat.
  • "We're taking Ike to the new Harry Potter movie..." - Refers to Harry Potter and the Goblet of Fire, which was released during the making of this episode.
  • The theme played by Mexican musicians while the rocket launches is Jarabe tapatío (The Mexican Hat Dance).
  • The background during the credits of Jambu lying dead on the moon is a direct parody of the ending credits of Space Cowboys.
  • The music that plays over the first scene with the Russians is the intro theme music with the chants of Jedah Dohma, from the Capcom fighting game series Darkstalkers.
  • When Clyde asks if Mexico has a space program, there is a picture of Kyle with his elephant, as seen in the Season 1 episode "An Elephant Makes Love to a Pig".
  • Originally, when the trucker is pulled over by the police, he yells "You told me you won that whale at Chuck E. Cheese's!" However, on the South Park Season 9 DVD, the line is replaced with "You told me you won that whale at Pizza Hut!".
